As suggested in this thread, Family is a key theme. Elvis’ concern for the well-being of family, their shared past enshrouded by the experience of poverty, fuels his desire to provide for them. The Graceland estate is the lavish expression of that need. But it also speaks to another set of themes: Greed and Fame. They are linked. For Parker, greed is about money. For Elvis, greed is about fame.
Underlying all of that is another theme: Addiction. Parker’s addiction is gambling (again, money). Elvis’ addiction evolves from his obsessive need as an exhibitionist on stage … to a drive to achieve greater fame … to an actual addiction to drugs.
In the end, the story is a tragic one which both key characters, Parker and Elvis, dissipated and dying under the influence of their own shadows.
Next, a discussion of some key Dialogue in Elvis.
