Desiree, when I was a mentor at a Black List/Women In Film feature writers lab, one of our guest speakers was Aline Brosh McKenna. She said one thing she had learned in reading writers’ scripts (I believe this was for staffing My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) was that really good writers knew how to do two things: Handle exposition and transition between scenes.

I’ll try to remember to write an article on this, but one thing you can do is read a bunch of contemporary movie scripts and pay attention to scene transitions.
