Emlyn, thanks for those comments. As anyone who’s followed my blog for any length of time knows, I am not a fan of writing rules, especially about screenwriting. As a writer noted the other day on Twitter, quoting his college professor: “Good writing is what you can get away with.” This is especially true about screenwriting where we don’t need to use complete sentences … sometimes a single word of scene description can suffice … we can even make up words like William Goldman did in his script for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (e.g., “barrel-assing”).
