Excellent counterpoint, Brian. One need look no further than the film business during The Great Depression during which comedy was king. People desperately needed to escape and have a few laughs and for a few nickels, they could go to the local bijou and do precisely that.
The topic of diversity is a prominent one in Hollywood. It also pertains to genres. We want, even need movies to cover a wide spectrum of story types from Action to Horror, Thriller to Drama, Science Fiction to Fantasy, and yes, Comedy.
