Fleurette, sounds good re your script. My main point is that stories are organic, even with such a highly structured format as a screenplay. When people say ‘THIS plot point HAS to happen on THIS page’, we veer into formula territory which often leads to formulaic writing.
That said, it’s always a good thing to go through our pages and look for ‘fat’ we can cut. The three E’s come into play:
Is it Essential?
Is it Efficient?
Is it Entertaining?
Look at every scene, indeed, every line of scene description or dialogue and ask those three questions. The first two are more about trimming. The third is where we want to end up: a tight, lean script that pops on the page.
