Great analysis, Cameron. As distinctive as the movie was — and refreshingly so telling a hero story, not a superhero story — like you, I found the narrative aligning with a pretty conventional (not in a bad way at all) story structure. Yes, there’s the parallel storylines of the other Spider-Characters, but in reality, that’s a bit of a ruse to shroud the overall trajectory of Miles arc. His is a traditional (again, not in a bad way) hero’s journey. It’s just written so well with wonderful characters and universally relatable themes that we get caught up in the story… which is ultimately the sign of a great narrative.
I really loved this movie… and I was so prepared NOT to because of superhero movie burn-out.
Thanks again for your plot analysis. A solid take on the story’s structure.
