Great point, Ed. If someone were to try to navigate their way through script meetings in Hollywood where three-act structure is mentioned *ALL* the time, they would have a hard time of it.

I like stories with complex plots, but my favorites are ones with simple plots and complex characters. And you mention a key point: “emotional beats.” What in our stories is going to make an emotional impact on an audience? It’s the characters in the context of the plot.
