I agree, Laura. It not only has the biggest moment of the story — Alexis’ death — in the middle, but switches narrative perspectives from Tyler to Emily around that point, too. It’s an interesting script in that it’s unconventional conventional story. What I mean by that is the interplay of family relations, characters living with regret and guilt, young love, domineering father, we’ve seen all of those dynamics before, so conventional in that sense. However, the structure and pacing of the story feels different than mainstream Hollywood movies. It’s like a series of slice of life bits strung together.

I’d be interested to break down the story in terms of sequences. I’m guessing there are at least 12, maybe 15.
