I just composed this lengthy analysis in response to your comments, Laura, then lost it! So a shorthand version:
Aunt March = Trickster
Marmee = Mentor
The sisters = Attractors, even Amy despite the friction between them which enflames from time to time.
Laurie and Friedrich Bhaer = False Attractors (Romance). Again, I had this wonderful — I think — take which vanished, but the short version is this: Her authentic path is not to be in a husband-wife relationship. She is tempted with Laurie (read: her letter to him), but I think that’s more of a temporary lapse from her commitment to her Self. I love how Gerwig handled the Jo-Bhaer relationship in the movie: Fantasy version via her book in which she chases him and they end up together / Real version in which she does not need a husband to validate who she is. The guys exist in her story in order to test her understanding of who she is and confirm her desire to be a Free Agent (romantically).
Finally:
Mr. Dashwood = Trickster
The misogynist old hoot ends up publishing her book.
