I saw the movie on an airplane returning from France and enjoyed it. I was surprised by the number of subplots, so was interested to track them in the scene-by-scene breakdown, and sure enough, there are a bunch of them:

Alistair and Kitty Pong
Eddie and Fiona
Astrid and Michael
Aramina and Colin (their wedding)
Peik Lin and Rachel
Astrid and Rachel
Eleanor and Rachel
Eleanor and Nick
Amanda and Rachel
Oliver and Rachel

That’s a lot of storylines. I suspect part of that has to do with the novel and the characters introduced there, but it’s tricky handling that many subplots in a movie. However, it works well on screen and all the cross cuts between subplots adds to the quick pace of the story.
