J, all I'm suggesting is to take Jung's statement at its most simplistic level: If a Protagonist is living in a state of Disunity, the Universe will respond by interrupting their Ordinary Life with a Whammo. "You cannot continue to live your authentic life. You have to change. Now off you go on your Protagonist's journey. The events which happen in the External World will drive you into your Internal World where you will discover that which will transform you into a New Self."
