Laura, I zeroed in on maternity. One woman (Theresa) doing what she can to provide for her family knowing she doesn’t have long to live. Another woman (Isabel) who in effect ran away from maternal responsibilities only to now be confronted with becoming a mother.

It actually recalls the 1988 movie Stepmom: A terminally-ill woman must deal with her ex-husband’s new lover, who will be their children’s stepmother.

Only in this case the irony is that the dying woman is Grace’s alternate mother and the surviving woman is the birth mother.

I hadn’t planned on watching this movie, but after this week, I’ve added it to my To Watch list.
