Lois, I am in 100% agreement with your take on the character archetypes in this movie, even down to Dixon as a Trickster. While he wears a nemesis mask much of the time, he also (A) saves Angela’s case files from being burned up, (B) gets the crap beat out of him to get DNA samples from the “crop haired man”, (C) suffers through telling Mildred the truth about the suspect NOT being her daughter’s assailant, and (D) ends up Mildred’s ally as they take off to Idaho. The fact he’s “all over the place both in actions and thinking” also reflects the Trickster type, as they basically represent Id, acting most of the time in their own self-interests, except those occasions where they — surprisingly — act in a selfless manner.

Great analysis!
