My choice for dialogue is this monologue Cassie delivers to Al, the man who sexually assaulted Nina, which eventually led to her suicide. At this moment, Cassie is straddling Al, who is tied up to the bed.
"Nina was extraordinary. So smart. Weirdly smart. She was so completely herself. Even when she was four years old. She was fully formed from day one. Same face, same walk. And funny. Like a grownup is funny, kind of shrewd. I was just in awe of her. I couldn't believe she wanted to be my friend. She didn't give a fuck what anyone thought apart from me, because she was just... Nina. And then she wasn't. Suddenly she was something else. She was yours. It wasn't her name she heard when she was walking around. It was yours. Your name all around her. All over her, all the the time. And it just... squeezed her out. So when I heard your name again, your *filthy* fucking name, I wondered, when was the last time anyone had said hers? Or thought it even, apart from me? And it made me so sad because, Al... [holds up a scalpel] ... YOU should be the one with her name all over you."
One of the more interesting aspects of this script (and movie) - as I noted before - is that almost all we know about Nina is through dialogue provided by Cassie. Even when Cassie watches the video of the rape, we do not hear Nina - at all. Just the raucous sound of a bunch of guys laughing and interacting with Al as he assaults Nina.
Thus it is CASSIE who provides Nina's "voice." And it is here in this scene with Al, where we get the clearest, most comprehensive "take" of how that horrific night impacted Nina... and by extension Cassie.
An interesting thought: Cassie's point is that Nina was somehow "replaced" by the ever-growing presence of "that night" in her life going forward. "And it just... squeezed her out." Doesn't that parallel what happened to Cassie? That the trauma of the assault and Nina's eventual suicide has "squeezed out" Cassie. The relationship with Ryan represents the last flickering flame of an aspect of Cassie's psyche which could enable her to live her *own* life. When the truth about Ryan's involvement in the event which forever altered Nina's life is made known to Cassie, that flame is snuffed out. All that's left is rage and an unstoppable need to exact revenge... and yet, given Cassie's planning, an awareness that she may die in the process. I do not think Cassie wants to die, however, I believe that if she did, she made some sort of peace with that possibility as she headed into the bachelor party... that then she and Nina would be together again.
