No, in some ways, a character-driven drama is the opposite of the New Four Quadrants. Those movies are getting made, such as Nomadland, Sound of Metal, White Tiger. Just not by the big five Hollywood movie studios. In your story, your characters are your “spectacle” in the sense that it’s the metaphorical “fireworks” they produce through their interactions, in particular conflict, which give the drama its emotional entertainment. My advice: Write the hell of that story … and any other drama you’re drawn to. Write the characters with such complexity and nuance that actors will want to play those roles. Good luck!
