Paul, that’s often the way it works: An assistant or recently promoted manager actively looks for talent, writers they can spot, work with, and develop material, hopefully to either option or sell that scripted content, or more likely use as writing samples to send the writer out for meetings, up for OWAs, etc. The more senior managers don’t need to do that, they rely on the juniors to bring in new talent while they (seniors) handle established writers.

So yes, be on the lookout for new managers. And when talking with manager’s assistants on the phone — following up on queries — be aware that many of them are on the make to become reps themselves, so they could potentially be of value to you.
