Roo, your take demonstrates the organic nature of characters and how archetypes can flex with them. For example, whereas one could look at Antonio as a Nemesis a la Cameron’s analysis, I can absolutely see him as a Trickster because we do see his ‘ally’ side as a loving father, albeit a distant husband. Then in moving away from the family, he shifts into ‘enemy’ mode. But then when Cleo goes to the hospital pregnant, Antonio provides some -at least- minimal assistance.
One thing is for sure: The male characters come off quite badly in this film, even the older brothers are a pair of Tricksters. As you note, the youngest boy comes off as the most likeable male figure, but who’s to say what he will become?
