Thanks for your observations, Jason. I concur with your point about seeking out producers. In fact, my advice to unrepped writers is to focus on managers who have produced movies similar in genre / tone as the writer’s spec. Managers are much more open to unsolicited writers, hell, many of them encourage people to send them loglines to see if there’s anything interesting. But even if they’re not a manager, going through producers and their execs has more potential than going after any of the Big Four agencies.
