Yes, Laura, there are numerous flashbacks which works for three reasons: (1) They are efficient in laying out backstory elements; (2) They are expected in a mystery like this, a trope if you will.
Per this last point, the thing I come away with from the script is how much Rian Johnson loves the whodunnit genre. He has so much fun with the characters and those key moments we expect in these type of films, e.g., when Blanc interrogates all the characters, the big explanation of the crime at the end, plot twists and turns. It feels like a love letter to this particular genre.
